In this fourth book of the Moorehouse Legacy series, Jessica Bird (aka J.R. Ward) tells the story of Spike and Mad with her typical aplomb. It's a solid contemporary romance, and while the plot and characters didn't have quite the complexity and depth of the first three books in the series, and the development of the relationship followed a familiar formula, the likability of the characters makes it a worthy read.

I didn't feel like the non-relationship aspects of the characters stories were quite as comprehensive as I'm used to in this series. Mad's issues with her brother and her own insecurities were well developed and both understandable and sympathetic, but the resolution wasn't as satisfying as I hoped, and I would have enjoyed more story surrounding her half sister. Spike's past was brushed upon a few times, and there was a poignant scene between him and his sister concerning it, but I would have liked to have seen that expanded. Secondary characters were also more briefly featured than I'm used to with Bird's romances.

Regardless, I liked A Man in a Million and Spike in particular. He was a good guy, and I enjoyed his endearing uncertainty and the tenderness and understanding he showed for Mad. I thought Mad was a nice heroine, as well, and I loved the choices she made in her career and how she dealt with her brother and their supermarket empire. She was a little quick to jump to erroneous conclusion when something brushed against her insecurities and past pain, but she's a strong, competent woman with a good head on her shoulders. She had a lot of spine when needed. Together they were a sizzling and sweet couple, and their tale was a quick, satisfying bite of brain candy.

I was delighted with this book. (I'm now reading the second in the series.) To me, it is romance at its best. It can be steamy but not erotica exactly, it is humorous in places, there is a beautiful old house to fall in love with, a close family, and the characters become important. I'm going to read the whole series.
Loved the characters, story line and of course, the passion. J.R. Ward's humor always comes through, making the characters feel like someone you may actually know. Can't wait for the next black dagger brotherhood book to come out this April. Hands down, her best series. The Rogue was a pleasure to read in the midst of waiting. I didn't give this book a 5 star, only because the writing was a little off in the beginning. The guy/guy conversations had a hint of pbs to it..... But, it quickly got back on track.
I loved the book "A Man In A Million"! When I first deceided to read the Jessica Bird books I was a little sceptical. I was afraid they would be silly impossible romance stories that wouldn't interest me, but I wanted to see just what JR Ward had written before The Black Dagger Brotherhood books. I was very pleased! This book was romantic, sexy, and suspenseful! I liked the characters very much and Bird has a way of writing from the perspective of both the hero and heroine which adds to the suspense. However, where they got that cover design from is beyond me!
There are some signs in this book that are leading toward her development of the Black Dagger Brotherhood series. It is more complex than her other Silhouette romances. Her characters are always well-developed, it is one of her strengths. For a romance, it is excellent, but is better viewed as a transition to her staggeringly good Black Dagger series (written under the name J.R. Ward)
This series is a great series. The characters are very believable and are very interesting. I find it hard to put down the book and read until the end. Then I am without a book again, just need to get them all at once.
Madeline Maguire has pretty much given up on love after being betrayed not once, but twice, however this hasn't stopped her fascination with Spike Moriarity. Spike thinks about Mad all the time and would love to have a chance with her. However, with the secrets in his past, he doesn't believe he is worthy of her. Now he's agreed to accompany her to a family gathering in order to protect her from her less than kind siblings. As they spend more and more time together, their feeling deepen into love. Can this new love survive the secrets of his past and the machinations of Mad's family?

Ripe with emotion, passion and family drama, A Man In A Million pulled me into Mad and Spike's life and kept me wanting their much deserved happiness to finally come! A Man In A Million left me anxiously hoping that Ms. Bird intends to write more stories for the other characters in this book. It doesn't matter if Jessica Bird is writing contemporary romance or paranormal romance under her alias J.R. Ward, each and every book explodes with her awesome story telling talent.

After reading this series, I can where some of the author’s future characters started coming into play. Spike is obviously related to one of the brotherhood and his mother was from Caldwell. Yellow eyes don’t lie. Mad is a strong female character and I love that her sexual innocence does not mean she is naive in all things. This was a good series even if a bit too repetitively mapped out.
